DOUBLE TAP TO ZOOM WITH PHONE OR TABLET xxiv INTRODUCTION FOR PROTÉGÉS Helpful Documents As you work through this guide, you will find it helpful to have a few resources on hand. These resources may be paper or electronic documents. Work with your Orientation Mentor to gather the following: 88 licensing regulations 88 staff handbook or other documents that include or refer to pro- gram policies or procedures 88 family handbook or other documents that include or refer to pro- gram policies or procedures 88 program curriculum Apply Your Knowledge Throughout each chapter of the Early Childhood Staff Orientation Guide are fea- tures titled “Apply Your Knowledge.” These sections should be completed in collaboration with your Orientation Mentor. The questions or tasks described are meant to provide a framework for a conversation between you and your mentor. You might think of the questions as a short interview that you will con- duct with your Orientation Mentor. In this interview you will ask the questions and your mentor will help you to complete the answers. By asking and answer- ing the questions and completing the tasks described, you will learn how the ideas presented in this book are applied in the specific program in which you work. The questions will help you to determine where materials are located, how program-specific policies are structured and implemented, and the basic “rules of the road” for the unique program in which you have chosen to work. Check Your Learning Each chapter of the Early Childhood Staff Orientation Guide ends with a short quiz. This quiz gives you an opportunity to show what you have learned about various aspects of your program and about working with young children. Use the quiz as a learning tool. If you are unsure about some questions, take a few minutes to review the guide’s corre- sponding information. Or spend some time with your Orientation Mentor reviewing the relevant best practices. Remember, your goal is to feel well prepared. Use the quiz as one indicator of your readiness. COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL
