next steps
You will complete the Go Green Rating Scale at least twice
as you develop your green program. The first completion
will provide your baseline score. The baseline results
will help you evaluate your current conditions and, more
important, will help you develop a plan for improvement.
The baseline score reflects your starting point and
ultimately will show how much you have improved.
After you establish your baseline score, proceed with
the following actions:
Record your next steps• : Consider the actions required
to improve your score and the individuals who must be
involved. Space is included at the end of each section
for you to record your next steps. This might include a
note to call your licensing contact, a list of people who
could help you, a reminder to switch an existing product
for a green alternative, or a plan to carry out a series of
inspections. These notes will become your green plan,
the summation of the steps necessary to reach your target
score.
Work with staff and outside service providers• :
What credibility will your green program have if
you meticulously follow the Go Green Rating Scale
guidelines, but then an exterminator comes and sprays
pesticides, the cleaning service uses harsh chemicals,
and the kitchen staff keep poisonous products under
the sink? These are real situations that occur far
more frequently than you may expect. Ensuring that
any persons involved in property management will
match your green goals as outlined in this program is
a challenge. It is very important that your landlord,
property manager, landscape gardener, pest control
operator, cleaning personnel, and custodial staff all
understand and support your dedication to provide a
healthy environment.
