Carol Aghayan

Biography:

Carol Aghayan taught early childhood courses for twenty-five years at Louisiana State University (LSU) and Louisiana Technical College. Most of her work focused on child development, curriculum development and pedagogy, using inquiry based learning and studies in the classroom, music and movement, child guidance, attachment issues, culturally sensitive care and education, and relationship based care. Carol holds a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in early childhood.

Carol was the lead teacher in the Child Development Laboratory Preschool, located in the School of Human Ecology at LSU. The Lab is an inclusive setting that serves children from several cultural, racial, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. She mentored and coached graduate students and student teachers as they observed, assisted, or co-taught with her in the Lab.

Carol is the past president of the Baton Rouge Association for the Education of Young Children and was the faculty advisor for the student group of AEYC at LSU. In 2007, Carol received the LSU School of Human Ecology Teaching Award, and in 2004, she received the Distinguished Clinician Award for preschool from the Louisiana Association of Teacher Educators.

Carol has presented at numerous National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) conferences, and hundreds of presentations in both public and private schools, for Head Start and Early Head Start programs, at child care centers, and for child advocacy groups.

Carol is a certified trainer for Teaching Strategies and was one of 5 teachers featured in the Creative Curriculum in Action DVD. She is also a certified trainer for CLASS (the Classroom Assessment Scoring System) and for the Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC).
