Biography: 

Sherri GriffinSherri Griffin is a professor of early childhood education at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses, supervises student teachers, and serves as an advisor. Sherri also received Eisenhower grants for a combined project with the physics and chemistry departments to train elementary teachers how to use physical science in the elementary classroom. Sherri has been active in the early childhood field for over twenty-five years serving as a trainer and consultant for child care providers, public school teachers, Head Start staff, environmental educators, naturalists, and parents. She frequently partners with education consultants from the Missouri Department of Conservation to provide training for early childhood professionals in the areas of nature and conservation. Sherri practices what she preaches at Millersburg Preschool, Inc., a small, Missouri accredited, parent-cooperative in the community where she lives. In this capacity, she works with preschoolers and their families as well as alumni (K-3 graduates of preschool) on a routine basis throughout the year. The school serves as a model program for Project Construct as well as a training site for the early childhood and elementary education students from Central Methodist University. Sherri fosters her sense of wonder with the Cedar Creek Club, a group of children and families who come together on a routine basis to explore and monitor a local creek. Her areas of interest and expertise include “nature and conservation,” “science,” “early childhood literacy,” “curriculum development,” and “play.”
