Daniel Gartrell
Biography: Dan Gartrell is a former sixth grade teacher in Ohio and a former Head Start teacher for the Red Lake Band of Ojibwe in northern Minnesota. During the early 1970s, Dan completed his master's degree at Bemidji State University, where he was a child development associate (CDA) advisor for the child development training program. Dan received his doctoral degree in education from the University of North Dakota in 1977. He is currently the director of the child development training program and a professor of early childhood and elementary education at Bemidji State University.

Dan has presented over 200 workshops, keynote addresses, and trainings on such topics as guidance, development of intelligence in young children, and emergent literacy. He has presented throughout the United States as well as in Germany and Mexico. Dan is a part of a blended family that includes his wife, Julie Jochum, five children ages 27 to 40, and 11 grandchildren.
