Review: Book News Inc. - August 1, 2010
Jacobson, coordinator of early childhood education at Rider University, fathers essays by US and European academics in early childhood education, pondering how preschool, kindergarten, and elementary children learn about gender identity from the adults who teach them. Some topics discussed include child-teacher conversations, exploring constructions of gender, and using picture books to help children develop socio-emotional skills. Other areas explored are building blocks as a gender equalizer in math and science primary classrooms, and creating preschool classroom environments that promote gender equity. The book will be of interest to students in education. (Annotation 2010 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
