Hip on Health: Health Information for Caregivers and Families features large-size print, fun black and white illustrations by Nic Frising, and a discussion of health and wellness in early childhood that features information covering a child's growth, development, and typical childhood issues from illness to safety. All this is presented in the form of reproducible mini posters, one-page information sheets, and documents that lend to posting, distributing to families, displays, and more. While this information has been covered before, it's the format which promises to reach further into general-interest audiences, parenting and communities, providing all health concerns in easily-digestible approaches perfect for discriminating educators.

Hip on Health, by Dr. Charlote Hendricks, is a significant contribution to child health literature. The format allows presentation of material in readable and also, with the unusual accompanying posters, visual form. A wide range of topics is covered in succinct style, enhanced by lighthearted cartoons. The breadth of subject material is impressive, ranging from common, indeed daily, concerns, to less common but important considerations. Noteworthy is the inclusion of the dangerous "hot car syndrome," which is generally inadequately appreciated, despite some forty child deaths annually from this totally preventable disaster. This is a good manual for all who deal with children.
