tempo, which the class must then imitate. An example would be this: bend knees—
straighten—place hands on hips.
Here are other possible sequences:
• bend knees—straighten knees
• rise on tiptoe—lower heels—clap hands twice
• bend forward at waist—straighten—place hands on head
• jump twice in place—open and close mouth—shake arms
To make the activity more challenging, all you have to do is add to each sequence! The
following show the above sequences with two more steps added. Start by adding just one:
• bend knees—straighten knees—place hands on hips—nod the head—circle
arms • rise on tiptoe—lower heels—clap hands twice—turn around—clap three times
• bend forward at waist—straighten—place hands on head—jump once in place—
blink three times
• jump twice in place—open and close mouth—shake arms—shake whole body—
collapse to floor
Observation and Evaluation: Is the child able to imitate what her or his eyes are seeing? Is
the child able to remember a sequence?
Curriculum Connectors: Being able to physically replicate what the eyes are seeing is a
central component of art, and is necessary in learning to write (language arts). Sequencing
is part of mathematics.
