Appetizers and Dips
21 Taco to easy make, Dip layered dip provides a great opportuniy for talking about
this diferent vegetables, their colors, and how many layers they make together.
1 diced tomato
8 ounces sour cream
8 ounces softened cream cheese
1 1 ½-ounce envelope of taco
seasoning 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional)
Tortilla chips for dipping
1 Using a sharp knife, shred lettuce and set it aside.
2 Dice tomatoes into small cubes; set them aside.
3 Mix sour cream, softened cream cheese, and taco
Equipment Measuring cup
Electric hand mixer (optional)
Small plates for serving
seasoning until well blended. (Use an electric hand
mixer on high speed if you like.)
4 Spread mixture into a 9-by-13-inch pan.
5 Layer shredded lettuce over seasoned mixture.
6 Layer diced tomatoes over lettuce.
7 Sprinkle cheddar cheese over tomatoes.
8 Top off the layers with sliced black olives.
9 Serve dip with tortilla chips.
Extension Show the children what a corn tortilla looks like before it is
baked and packaged. What differences or similarities do
children observe between an uncooked tortilla and one that
has been cooked?
